Mould in a terrarium: why it happens and how to stop it
4 min read
Why
Mould spores are everywhere. They grow where there is dead plant matter, standing humidity and still air.
Fix it now
- Pick out the mouldy material with tweezers.
- Open the lid for an hour or two a day for a week.
- Hold off watering until the soil dries a little.
- Trim any leaf touching the soil or glass.
Prevent it
- Add a clean-up crew of springtails; they eat mould as it forms.
- Do not overwater: damp, not wet.
- Remove dead leaves as they appear.
